Saghi Ghahraman is an Iranian-Canadian poet, activist, pioneer of Queer Movement of Iran. On 2003, she initiated Writers in Exile Club within PEN Canada in Toronto and moderate the monthly for a year and then handed it over to PEN. Showed her Snap Shots of Trashed in Toronto on Gallery 401 Richmond, 2007; Skin Through The Years, Chicago, Amir Nourmandi’s gallery, 2007. Her interview with Iran’s Shargh Newspaper on October 2007 ended in immediate shot down of the newspaper for two years.
Advocating for Iranian LGBT refugees between 2007-2019, she helped over 1000 Iranian LGBTI refugees resettle in a safe, third country. Ghahraman founded Gilgamishaan Publications on 2010, focused on Iranian queer literature. Through zher poetry, paved the way for Iranian queer voice to break through the non-inclusive English queer literary world. Zhe’s been hailed an “avant garde” for breaking the rules and challenging norms. She is among BBC World 100 Women of 2021.
